Independent  Glasgow brewery West marked its 10th anniversary this week with the launch of a birthday beer – and a party with live music from 80s pop duo Go West.

Party Pilsner (5.5% ABV) is available on draught from West on the Corner, in  Woodlands Road, as well as the main brewery, beer hall and restaurant at the Templeton Building beside Glasgow Green.

West founder Petra Wetzel says while the pilsner is higher in IBU (29 IBU) than any other West beer, it is distinctly well-balanced and refreshing.

Wetzel added: “Party Pils has a very light malt bill and a dry finish allowing the additions of Cascade, Mandarina Bavaria, and Hallertau Blanc hops to shine.

“It’s like a sparkling wine you enjoy by the pint. Sweet scents of sherbet and gooseberry are accented by notes of green peppers, grass, and grapefruit.”

West also marked their 10th anniversary with the opening of a new brewery and Courtyard wedding venue, launched at a party night starring Go West.

The £5million investment in the new facility has multiplied production capacity ten-fold and created half a dozen new jobs with the brewer bottling a range of niche beers, such as Hefeweizen and Munich Red.

And the £1 million Courtyard is a unique venue featuring a 15ft wall of glass that acts as a viewing gallery into West’s new, state-of-the-art brewery below.
